James C. Dobbin Letters, . 1852-1856

James C. Dobbin (1814-1857) of Fayetteville, N.C., was a lawyer, state legislator, and secretary of the United States Navy under President Pierce. The collection includes five letters, 1854-1856, from Dobbin written while he was secretary of the United States Navy, about routine Marine Corps business, and one letter, 1852, from Dobbin declining to speak at a ladies literary festival in Fayetteville, N.C.
